DIVORCE by Emmerald *

Divorce, what an extremely dirty word.

Who actually likes that word? There are many reasons why people divorce. It usually bottles down to lack of attention or some form of abuse or maybe he or she really did make a mistake.

The day I decided to ask my husband for a divorce was one of the most difficult moments of my life. I just had enough. I opted to leave my cushy materialistically fancy life mainly to protect my children and for my happiness.

Question is why didn't he lament and say let’s work this out, I love you? No, instead his promise to me that he would smear my name and ruin my reputation took me by surprise.
You see I grew up reading fairy tales of knights helping the damsel in distress or of true love conquering all. I believed the vows one makes. I believed that my partner would be my best friend, my companion, my lover and that I was to walk side by side holding his hand through the good and the bad.

My parents were great role models too. He rode his triumph bike in the 60′s and rescued his girl in a forbidden romance and throughout their marriage together my dad continuously grabbed my mum every morning and snogged her (much to our disgust – like Mum and dad get a room, ewwe!) and he would hug her and go to work. They did that till the day they parted this world.

So to divorce was to admit defeat and I certainly believed I had failed.
But that is where I was wrong. Divorce is not a dirty word. It is a word that allows you to wash all that is dirty in your life and to come back with that pristine new beginning. So no divorce is not a dirty word.

And for all of you out there going through a divorce for whatever reason – You are not alone.
I did my laundry, have you?
